BIOGRAPH
Ahmed Ahmed grew up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the shy and timid middle child of five. In 2016 Ahmed exchanged NBA dreams for a photography class. With a new understanding of visual expression Ahmed jumped into teaching himself graphic design within his class, this progressed into Ahmed creating camouflage prints. The first camouflage print, a reconstruction of Australian currency for his brand which he neglected, stood alone for 2 years before Ahmed decided to revisit the idea, and found there great capacity for expressing himself. He is currently creating these striking camouflage prints, two seemingly antithetical concepts, to represent himself to the world. Inconspicuous, yet entrancing upon further inspection.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Every excursion shows me more of the world, and more of myself. Perspective is the biggest barrier to understanding each other and I hope my art can be a method of equalization. Rather than trying to convey an external message, I opted to portray myself. My prints are the things about myself I cannot say to you. The sweet tooth I try to keep under control, the animations bursting to life in my mind, even the nature we came from that we ended up fearing. These are all the parts of me I’d like you to see, if you’d just look a little closer.
TECHNIQUES
Ahmed primarily operates as a digital artist, working with layers to recreate classic camouflage patterns and motifs with an emphasis on color. He uses laser cut acrylics to bring these renderings to life alongside a layering process that brings forth a third dimension to the typically two dimensional medium. Ahmed tests the brains capacity of pattern recognition with another medium, low poly. By reducing the necessary attributes for recognition to the absolute limit he derives the true essence of an object, alongside an aesthetically pleasing rendering.
